President's Message
by Bill Smith
The International Builder Show was spectacular for anyone with even the slightest interest in building and related products. Ann and I represented Cabarrus County and North Carolina at several regional and national meetings. It was quite an experience for an old country boy from Kannapolis.
The Installation Banquet at the Speedway Club was also a great event. We had about 60 people in attendance. Awards were given to board members for service. The Builder Member of the Year was given to Blackwelder and Associates, Inc., Holly Blackwelder received this and a couple of other deserved accolades.
David Pressly; the 2006 National Association of Home Builders President, installed your 05 Board of Directors and Officers. This was an honor for all of us to be installed by the incoming national president. We have Ann to thank for that. She and David started in HBA work at the same time and have been friends since their first meeting.
The challenge I presented to all the membership in my remarks are as follows:
- Get involved in your community and let us know what you are doing. Are you coaching little league, involved in PTO or PTA, working with the elderly, on a local board or committee? We want to know so others can know what our members are contributing to our Cabarrus community.
- Attend one meeting this year and let us know what you think about the fellowship and the program.
- Commit to give $100 to BUILD-PAC this year.
- Sign up one new member. If we are good for you we can be good for them. Let the people you work with know you are a member and why you are a member.
If each of us did only two of these things our community would know we are a part of it. Our meeting attendance would average 60 each month. Our BUILD-PAC contribution would be over $4,000 this year. Our membership would increase from 240 to 360 members.
What could we do with 360 members? See you at the next meeting?
