President's Message
by Bill Smith
To make this year’s Parade of Homes the best ever, the Parade of Homes committee has started the year meeting almost every week in extended sessions.
The kick-off for this year’s parade will be Tuesday, March 22nd at our regularly scheduled membership meeting. The committee will have a walk around with booth tables so you can walk and talk about each part of the parade to the committee, including the Cabarrus Neighbors/Charlotte Observer representatives. This is the first time we have had this much exposure for the parade so come to the meeting on the 22nd of March and get involved!
In Cabarrus County good and accurate information about HOME building and the HOMEbuilders is hard to come by from the local press. Here are some quotes and facts all of us need to remember and when appropriate give this and other credible statements.
- Last week the U.S. Commerce Dept. reported that January HOUSING starts were at their highest level since 1984.
- The construction of 1,000 HOMES contributes about $79.4 million, that’s Million to the local economy according to NAHB. Stats. These are current stats, not a 1992 study done in back water Pa. That states NEW HOUSING does not pay for itself. This is only for single-family HOMES.
- Where does that leave us in Cabarrus County? Call, ask for the current single family permits and you do the math.
- Next, how many of you pay unemployment tax? According to the Independent Tribune, we only have approximately 3,000 people employed in construction and related businesses in Cabarrus County. By that statement with almost 2,000 home permits projected to be issued in 05 we are doing a really good job.
- After THE NEW HOME purchase, HOME furnishing and related items purchased are between $5,000.00 and $8,905.00 within the first year of new HOME ownership.
- THE Charlotte Metro area had about 25,000, that’s thousand! Home starts in 04, according to Mark Vitner, Senior Economist for Wachovia. So what does this all mean?
YOU DO THE MATH
